Frequently Asked Questions

SPD Builders are a family run business based in Liverpool, Merseyside. Established in 2004, with over 15 years experience in the industry, we have worked on a variety of projects to the compete satisfaction of our customers.

Do I require planning permission for my extension?

Planning permission is dependent upon the size of the structure, during our first visit to your premises we will be able to inform you as to whether planning is required.

You can perform certain types of work without needing to apply for planning permission. These are called “permitted development rights”.

Can you help with the planning permission if I need it?

Of course! We can provide a full service from start to finish, not just do the build. It can be a daunting task dealing with Local Authorities so let SPD take that strain away from you.

Can you give me an idea of costs?

Please see our Pricing page for a good in depth view of our costing options based on a permitted development extension. However, as a general rule of thumb you can base an extension to cost from £ per square metre.

Are the building costs likely to change?

Following our initial visit to your home, a fully itemised breakdown of the work discussed will be provided to you along with the costs involved. All costs will be agreed by yourselves before any work takes place.

Who clears up the mess?

We do. Our team will remove all waste from your property so you don’t have to. At SPD we believe you should be able to enjoy your new extension or whatever your project may be, without having to roll your sleeves up after we’ve gone and start the clear up!

What should I do when I am pleased with everything you have done?

Tell everyone! Our company prides itself on keeping the customers satisfied and your recommendations are extremely important to us. We are very proud of the fact that the majority of our work comes from such recommendations and we want them to keep on coming.

Do the glass rooms get really hot in summer? and are they durable?

By utilising the latest specifications of low e-thermal coating and argon filled panels, your GlassRoom is guaranteed to exceed the rigorous new heat efficiency regulations and remains comfortably warm even in the most extreme conditions. The technology used means that you can keep the internal temperature ‘just-right’ at all times – no more ‘too hot’ in the summer and ‘too cold’ in the winter.

The GlassRooms system we use has been designed by award winning architects, structural glass engineers and leading independent test engineers. Constructed from toughened glass units which are strong enough to walk on, our glass rooms are highly durable and easy to maintain.
